I graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Journalism in 1992 and started my career as a sports writer and copy editor for The Roanoke (Va.) Times. My most recent position was as Director of Marketing for roanoke.com, a division of The Roanoke Times and the most comprehensive web site in Southwest Virginia. I've also worked for the Associated Press and the Greensboro (N.C.) News & Record.

| In 2000, I decided to leave the newspaper to focus on raising my new son and building new business for Gibson Media. My clients are primarily small businesses in the tourist community where I live, Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. It has been an outstanding decision as I get to enjoy the best of both worlds -- a flexible, fulfilling career and the opportunity to spend a lot of time with my son, Ben. I served a three-year term on the board of directors for the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce/Partnership, including the position of President in 2005. I am active at Resurrection Catholic Church and the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame. I also volunteer my marketing services for several charity events. In my spare time, I enjoy golf, reading, cooking, watching college basketball (Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!) and napping (yeah, like that ever happens).
